Agricultural landscapes – how can the old heritage be preserved?

Over the centuries, farming has been a key factor in shaping rural landscapes and today those landscapes form part of the cultural and natural heritage. Part of this heritage, like old farm buildings, hedges and stone walls, are now at risk since the farm practices sustaining them are no longer in use.

The Swedish National Heritage Board is currently working on the design of a new agri-environment measure to preserve valuable elements of the landscape. AgriFood is contributing to this work by a literature review of non-monetary factors influencing farmers’ decision to apply for agri-environment support.

The project is commissioned by the Swedish National Heritage Board and will be completed in the spring 2019.
