Creeling and trawling for nephrops on the Swedish west coast

Trawling for nephrops in Sweden is only allowed outside a so called trawling boundary. However, in eight areas within the boundary, shrimp and nephrops fishing with bottoms trawls is allowed, provided that a sorting grid is used.

We investigate economic effects of removing the areas where trawling is permitted within the trawling boundary, focusing on the nephrops fishery. The effects concern possible negative effects on trawling segments, as well as possible positive effects on segments fishing with creels.

The project is carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Marine Research in Sweden and is expected to be completed in autumn 2018.
