Increased earnings for farm households?

There are frequent reports of economic problems in agricultural businesses in Sweden: but are the incomes of Swedish farmers really falling behind? In the EU and the US, farm households have caught up and have a similar economic well-being as non-farm households, mainly since farm households devote more time to off-farm work.

This project analyses the earnings of farm households in Sweden and if the earnings gap between farm and non-farm households have decreased, and if this is due to an increase in off-farm earnings.

We analyse the changes in earnings between 1997 and 2012. With individual data we can divide household earnings into farm- and non-farm earnings, and allocate household earnings between family members.

The project is expected to be completed by autumn 2017.
