Transformation and Innovation in Agriculture: A Farmers’ Perspective

Exploring new production methods and changing production often entails considerable uncertainty for farmers, potentially dampening their willingness to experiment with novel approaches. This project analyses how public policies can facilitate innovations within agriculture. Focus lies on understanding the farmers' viewpoints regarding policies. We address four specific questions:

  • How do the farmers view innovation activities within their own businesses?
  • How are policy instruments perceived as a driving force for fostering innovations within the business?
  • What other factors, beyond political instrument, does the farmer consider important for innovation within the business?
  • How can policy instrument be improved to strengthen innovation in agriculture?

This project is conducted in collaboration with the Department of Economics at SLU and is expected to be completed by the autumn 2024.
