Within the Swedish unemployment insurance system there is a special regulation for commercial fishers, which means that they can receive unemployment benefits if there is a temporary interruption in fishing activities such as during bad weather conditions. The Swedish government (prop. 2023/24:128) has proposed removing this regulation. In this project, we analyse to what extent the fishing industry's income depends on unemployment benefits and which types of fisheries are most dependent on these benefits.
The project will be finished in 2025.
