Does the fishery for Norway Lobster overlap with marine wind power in the Kattegat?

Sweden, like many other countries, is allocating parts of its marine areas for offshore wind power. In many cases, the areas best suited for wind farms overlap with areas traditionally used by commercial fisheries. The trawl fishing for Norway Lobster in the Kattegat is among the fisheries most affected by offshore wind development, influencing not only the fishing industry but also the coastal communities where the catch is landed. At the same time, there is potential to fish for Norway Lobster using pots —perhaps even inside the wind farms themselves.

In this study, we examine the extent to which both trawling and fisheries with pots for Norway Lobster in the Kattegat overlap with planned offshore wind. The analysis estimates the historical economic value of catches taken from these areas and identifies municipalities that are dependent on them. This work is part of the Wind4Coco project and is carried out in collaboration with researchers at SLU’s Department of Aquatic Resources.

The project will be finished in 2026.
