Economic comparisons between recreational and commercial fisheries are difficult since these are fundamentally different activities. However, comparing their contributions to society is important for fisheries management and different values (including e.g. cultural values) of the activities are frequently presented by stakeholders.
This project aims at describing key economic concepts and indicators used in recreational and commercial fisheries (e.g. sales value and willingness to pay) and to what extent they are comparable.
The project is financed by the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and is a collaboration with Luleå Technical University and Umeå University. The project will be completed in autumn 2022.
