Food and climate - studying consumer interest in climate friendly food

The food sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and present food consumption patterns, constitute a growing concern with respect to climate impact. There is, however, an increased awareness among consumers that food affects the climate. Several studies show that many consumers are worried about climate change and want to purchase more climate friendly food, but the knowledge about how to do this prevents them.

The project investigates the interest in reducing climate impact by choosing climate-friendly food. It identifies consumers that are interested in information about the climate impact from food products in the purchasing situation, and identifies products where the consumer interest about the climate impact is important. The analysis is based on experiments and purchase data from a consumer panel.

The project is expected to be completed by 2020 and is a post-doc scholarship funded by the Swedish Retail and Wholesale Council.
