The National Food strategy for Sweden has targets for increased food production and exports, but Sweden is currently a small food exporter compared to many other EU countries. What can Sweden learn from other EU countries in order to increase Swedish food exports? We highlight possible answers to the question by analyzing Sweden's export patterns and identify examples of EU countries with significant food exports or that have succeeded in increasing their exports of food. We then map possible explanations for why these countries have become large exporters or have been able to increase their exports over time. The results are used to discuss whether Sweden can use similar strategies to increase its food exports.
The project is expected to be completed in autumn 2023.
