Agricultural support to farmers in the EU was decoupled from production in 2005 which represents probably the most radical reform of the CAP ever. The total level of support however remains largely unchanged. The aim of this article is to determine whether the CAP has become a better and more efficient policy by evaluating the long-term consequences of decoupled support for structural development, farm incomes, land prices and the environment.
